The Bosch GKS 18v-57 Circular Saw Product Review

When it comes to DIY or any sort of woodworking projects the circular saw is one of the most useful handheld tools you can own but over the years I have learnt that not every circular saw is created equal. With rechargeable batteries, comfortable grip handles and solid buttons and levers the Bosch GKS 18v-57 Professional Cordless Circular Saw is a very user friendly and durable power tool to own.

The Bosch GKS 18v -57 Professional Circular Saw features superior cutting performance, cutting up to 50 chip boards (900 x 19mm) to length with only one charge. It has a no-load speed of 3400 rpm, this handy, cordless saw can cut up to 57mm in depth.

It is a very comfortable and reliable saw and I am going to be walking you through some of my favourite aspects of the Bosch GKS 18v-57 Professional Cordless Circular Saw within this review.

It’s not the cheapest but it is one of the best.

Woodworking projects require skill, precision and creativity whilst working with large, awkward and heavy materials so it’s really no surprise that on occasion your tools may receive the odd bump or two. I know from my own experience just how hectic it can be so when it comes to choosing the right circular saw for my tool kit durability and reliability are paramount to my decision.

This is just one of the many different working conditions that I deal with.

As you can see working conditions can be hazardous and my tools need to be able to stand up to anything.

One thing I really like about the Bosch circular saw is this grip. It’s got a really nice soft rubber grip at the back that makes it easy to handle and same at the front. It makes it really nice to use.

I actually noticed the other day that my thumbs ached less at the end of the day since switching to this particular saw. Not bad considering my thumbs are sometimes the reason why I have to put off completing a project.

Some other things worth knowing about the Bosch GKS 18v-57 Professional Circular Saw.

Also at the front you’ve got the standard saw guide, starting from zero cutting point to 50mm out so that makes it quite handy if you’re trying to set up the saw guide.

This particular circular saw also has an adjustment at the front which allows you to perform bevel cuts of up to 45degrees and a removable and interchangeable saw guide for straight cuts.

At the back you’ve got a nice big long lever arm this is used to adjust your blade depth. It is easy to get to and chunky enough not to be too fiddly. It also has a retractable plastic saw guide, now I’m not a big fan of this but I will get into that further down in this review.

The last important thing worth noting is the ease of which blade changing can be performed. There is an Allen key, which is stored in the saw and can be used to easily remove the saw blades. There is nothing complicated or difficult in this process.

It’s almost perfect!

Although for the most part I love this circular saw I wouldn’t be completely honest if I didn’t share with you my frustrations over the plastic saw protector/guard. I would prefer to see this in metal not plastic, the reason being because I did use it with a couple of tight angles and the guard did rub against the blade.  I think it would be more sturdy if that was actually made out of metal, it’s not a huge deal but I did want to share that with you. On the positive side of things it feels really well weighted.

I like the fact that you’ve got the nice rubber handle in the back and the front so it just makes it easy to use.

It’s conclusive the Bosch GKS 18v-57 Professional Circular Saw is a keeper!

I mentioned in my opening paragraph that a circular saw, in my opinion, is one of the most useful handheld tools you can own and I truly believe this. Owning a cordless circular saw gives you the ease of moving around and the peace of mind of not having to worry about a extension cord. Bosch is a well know and trusted brand within this industry and I have not been disappointed with their tools yet which is why I reviewed and can recommend this circular saw. It is tough, looks good, stands the test of time and the design takes into consideration all the concerns a user may have.

I hope you have enjoyed this review and if you have any questions about the Bosch GKS 18v-57 Professional Circular Saw or want to leave your own personal review, leave a comment below.

  1. You explained how the saw is simple to use. Although I never used a saw, you got me thinking about buying one for some home projects. Thanks for the information. Content was great.

    1. Hi Kathy,
Circular saws can be very intimidating when you first start out. They look heavy and some are really bulky to use but not this one. I was astounded at how easy it is to use and being a female I had to problems with the size or weight of it. If you do decide to complete some home projects the Bosch GKS 18v-57 circular saw would definitely be one to consider.
Thank you for your feed back.
